  1. I'm aware of how data is stored on a hard disk. I was only simply trying to give him a visual representation of how it all works. :P

Also, the file size has nothing to do with trying to find the file. Recuva was able to find files in excess of 7GB for me with no problems. Just know that you don't have to over-write the entire file that was deleted to make it irrecoverable. You only have to over-write 1 byte of the entire file before it is broken and cannot be fully seen by Recuva. Therefor, something as simple as installing Recuva (or even browsing the internet where cookies and cache is stored) could cause the file to be irrecoverable. It's less likely to happen the larger amount of free space you have on the hard disk; however, can still happen. As far as the technical stuff about it being RAID and all...well, I really don't know a thing about that and you should probably wait for somebody who does to reply.

Just telling you what I know and hoping it helps!

you don't understand what he was saying...

if you have files added up to be 7GB but none (single file) above 4.2GB then yes, you can recover them without any problems.

The problem here is that Recuva (along with 8785624923423423424423422 recovery software out there) recognized those 4.2GB+ files as 0 Bytes.. for some reason and unrecoverable.

  2. Hi.

I recently formated a 2To HDD, and searched long time for a good usefull program for scanning it and recover data.

And i finally found Recuva from Piriform.

I was so happy that i donate some money for you... first time i donate for a program.

Unfortunately, some important formats (4 me at least ^^) are not supported in deep scan mode.

Will/would you add support for .MKV, .EXE, .7Z (7zip), .XCF (Gimp image format), .TXT, .NFO formats in next updates?

    It would be great!!!

In mean time i can't use my HDD as i don't want to erase thoses few importants files remaining, that deep scan is not able to recover for the moment.

    Anyway, thanks for your job!

I too deleted some MKV files that can't get it back, wonder if this file format will be support in future release?

  3. The file was on an external drive and nothing else was done to the drive after the delete, but so far no luck. I tried several other undelete programs. Several saw it, all but one said it was a 0KB file though. The one that did see the correct size wouldn't restore it either. Looks like I'm going to have to recreate. It was worth a shot though.

    Thanks

Would you please let me know which one software shows the correct size?
