AFAIK: RegKey doesn't support Wildcard (yet)
You might want to go through the current .ini, then, as there are several instances of wildcards being used with RegKey. The example I quoted above was directly from the latest Winapp2.ini.

Using the latest version, I'm finding that the wildcard (*) does not seem to be working for RegKey entries on my Windows 7 64-bit system. When I run the addition below, no changes are made to the registry. However, if I modify the code and replace the * with actual numbers (second example below), it cleans just fine. Can anyone else reproduce this behavior or explain why it's happening to me? Thanks.

Maybe it is still needed somehow.
I'm not certain I follow. Why would you want to launch a program on system start
that no longer exists? All this will do is generate errors and accomplish nothing.

I installed CCleaner using the 'Slim' installer on Windows 7 x64.
I have also set CCleaner to 'Run CCleaner when the computer starts'
However, after uninstalling CCleaner, the registry entry for the
above Auto start still remains in the registry (see entry below).
HKCU,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run","ccleaner",0x0,"""C:\Program Files (x86)\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe"" /AUTO"
While this won't necessarily cause any major problems, it really
is not good programming etiquette to leave this behind.

Alright, I lied (a little bit). There are 2 entries in the current ini that make use of wildcards in RegKey. The first one is below:
It's basically useless as is. I would recommend removing it completely from the list unless someone can fix it with the proper entries.
Also, I have fixed the entry I reported above and have listed it below. It now works compeltely as it should:
Thanks for your continued work on the very valuable project!
