  1. Microsoft has just launched a service called safety center. Its an online scanning service for viruses, pc maintenance, and has lots of pc tips.

Pretty good for computer noobs. I'm running the safety/virus scan right now to see if its any good.

Only downside is that its internet explorer only(active x control required for scans).

So, what's your judgement/thoughts on this one rridgely?

Is it worth doing, or should we stick with whatever current programs we have?

    Cheers

  2. It says in the dictionary it's the fruit of a trailing plant which is used as a vegetable, so take your pick!

Wouldn't it be easier to use a fork or spoon? A pick seems a bit of an overkill...... :P

  3. Is it not recommeded to reboot after having 'Fixed' the issues? Or am I barking up the wrong tree on this?

The reason I ask is because I have the same problem. Upon fixing the issues and re-scanning the same ones re-appear.

    Cheers

  4. G'day,

the top right of the screen is Samurize which is free.

The tabbed dock is Objectdock Plus which is not free :( . However, the basic version of Objectdock is just as good, which is what I had originally, till I upgraded.

Both of these programs running together have a very low mem sig of less than 6Mb happily running in the background.

    Cheers

  5. If we were locked in a room with Cher and her clone, we could "Cher and Cher-Alike."

WOAH, that just hit the "Barf-O-Meter" ? at a staggering 11!!!

Having something like that should be named as a WMD - Weapon of Music Destruction and the owner severely chastised to listening to ALL of Sony and Cher's songs.....

    Cheers ;)

  6. G'day,

I used to use Maxthon (for over 12 months) and found no real problems with it, be aware though, it's built on the IE platform and therefore leaves you open to the issues with anything IE related.

Can't talk for Avant as it's not one I've used, however I have converted to Opera8 and don't see any issues with it at all, that is, all the sites I've been to have all loaded correctly. Could it be a setup problem with yours?

    Cheers

  7. G'day,

the html tags to use are:

    <a href="http://www.somewhere.com/">Somewhere</a>

for quick reference to more html tags, google on 'html tags' or go here which has a quick list of common usage -> HTML Tags

Forgot to mention, a lot of forums (this one included) won't let you post html tags as they can be and are security issues, however, they do have built in functions (normally BBCode) which you use within the forums themselves.

To post a link in this forum the tags required are:

['URL=http://www.somewhere_else.com]Somewhere Else[/url] leaving out the * ' * after the first bracket and before the 'URL', had to place that in or else you wouldn't see the tags.

Even easier is to use the "Add reply" button as opposed to the "Fast Reply" on these forums and click on the 'http://' button. It will prompt you for the URL, which you can easily copy and paste, and then prompt you for a name.

Hope that's all clear as mud now :P

    Cheers

  8. I have used Registry Mechanic on an old corrupt Registry after BugDoctor and RegDoctor each found about a dozen errors. Registry Mechanic took a few hours to run through the 9Mb Registry, but ended up with more than 500 errrors that could be fixed. So my verdict is that it's more thorough than many other products but very slow.

G'day all and thanks for the replies and information.

I have to agree with Merlin on this, I've used other "Registry Cleaners" but have found that RegMech finds more when the others have completed their scans.

And yes, it does take it's own sweet time about it, but for piece of mind I'd prefer a program that takes its time and does the job correctly (hence why I know use CCleaner ;) ), so for the time being I'll stick with RegMech...... seeing you don't get a refund :P

    Cheers

  9. And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe

Shouldn't that last line read "he was in (as opposed to 'with') Marilyn Monroe" to make the statements flow on better??

  10. G'day folks,

it *sounds* like it could be a problem with your .dot file (Word Template File), ie; it's been corrupted somehow. Not sure of a fix straight off the bat but I'll post later on what I can find.

The other issue *might* be you've got a nasty within your system (as some virii will attack MSWord) which has corrupted your template file.

Sorry can't be of more help.

    Cheers

  11. G'day folks,

was just wondering what your opinion is of TrendMicros PcCillin Security Suite as compared to Etrust AV?

I've been using it for the last 4 years (PcCillin variants) and have not been infected...... 'yet'.

Reason that I'm inquiring is that it's not a 'huge' resource hog, but it does suck up some and was looking for something similar that would use less RAM.

    Cheers
