Where to connect Hard Drive for recovery

Is there any big difference, in speed mainly, between connecting the hard drive to be recovered to 

a USB on computer and to the SATA on the drive or connecting it directly to the SATA on the motherboard?


Will Recuva (or any other Recovery software) work faster if connected directly to the SATA motherboard?

A direct SATA connection has a faster transfer rate than USB.

But once the data is transferred any app will still take the same time to work on/with it.

So while direct SATA will be quicker writing to the target drive you may not notice much difference overall.
