What's New In Avast!

Don't use it myself but that could change soon and some others may be interested.

Main New Features

Web Shield

NNTP (Newsgroup) Scanner

Outlook Express archive unpacker

Lower memory footprint

New language packs

Finer recognition of malware types

Avast link

This version has been out for a while I think....

The ram usage is ok if you disable some of the useless shields.

I hate the interface and it doesn't have auto scanning so I would never put it on a pc I fixed.

I also haven't seen the new detection rate first hand.(and yes I've scanned infected pcs with it. I always ended up just using sysclean on them in the end.)

I have been using Avast! couple of years and it is just great. That 4.6 version has been out quite a while now. Here's Avast! revision history: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-4-home_pro-...on-history.html

After switching from CA (formely Etrust) to Avast, I must admit I am quite used to it now and have found it to be good on my system.

I think that people's systems can determine how good an app works for them. So sometimes a really good app gets a bad write up simply because it doesn't gel with the users apps and specs.

Version history shows 4.7.942 which was in beta but released on the 15th this month.

Yet the link in my first post says "The latest version of avast! antivirus - 4.6".

Link to Avast 4.7

Should get my facts straight before posting, eh.
