What was the best version of Ad-Aware?
Anyone still use Ad-Aware, the latest version?
I don't know anyone who still uses it.
Adware was rubbish and then went down hill.
Adware never found anything damaging.
Years ago it always found "Tracking Cookies" from my daughter's use of I.E.
but never saw anything at all from my use of Firefox.
That might indicate superiority of Firefox over I.E. but I think it more likely that Adware could not read Firedfox cookies.
Then it "upgraded" and refused to stand down as scan-on-demand but insisted upon real-time scanning and continuous theft of my processor cycles.
I could stop and disable its service and regain control of my processor for a moment or two,
and some-how it self-resurrected and as a zombie it continued to steal my processor cycles.
That is when I jumped ship, uninstalled, and never regretted it.

But now I use/I'd suggest using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) http://www.malwareby...lwarebytes_free and Spybot Search&Destroy http://www.safer-net...rg/index2.html. Some recommend SUPERAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/, but I haven't tested/used it in years (maybe I'll try it again soon).

So what did you think was the best version? I always liked the 2008 version before they updated it to the Anniversary Edition.

Could you explain what version number you were using and did you visit harmful websites or just good website without any virus?

I cannot even remember the version number of my current protection - I have to launch the GUI and click through "More" => "About"
I never visited bad sites, and never got any malware.
My daughter and I had private profiles and XP Home kept us isolated.
Ad-Aware found and identified many of her I.E. tracking cookies,
which I preferred not to scrutinize - better things to do with my life,
but I never noticed any cookies that caused me concern as her father - other than why do girls go internet shopping for shoes
I do not know how Adware zombie self-resurrected.
I think I knew about services and disabled those which Adaware had established - but still it came back.
I am sure I would have cracked it had I known of SysInternals Autoruns at that time.
