What software to scan and remove rootkits?

Its their any free software that does this? Or do exisiting programmes such as ad-aware already remove rootkits?

Thanks

seems to be pretty good one.and nope ad-aware doesnt remove rootkits

There are a few mentioned on AndyManchesta's site

RootkitRevealer is good at detecting rootkits, but does not help remove them.

Also see this list at antirootkit.com

I currently have Antivir Rootkit Detection (beta) installed

I like blacklight and gmer. :)

What a great site! Thanks for posting. Everyone should bookmark it. He's put all the most important security links in one site.

He's one of the spyware mods here on CCleaner (for people who don't know) and has a great selection of screensavers and emoticons as well.

Yeah I like Andy's site too. He's around on a few sites I frequent on the net, and is a very smart guy. A very great addition to this site! :)

I just got myself Darkspy Anti-Rootkit from that site. Looks pretty good, and it`s free.

Recently acquired F-Secures Blacklight, but has a time limit on it. This looks like a good replacement. I know Andy Manchesta is well respected here, so I think it`s a safe assumption to make that anything on his site will be OK.
