HI. I admit that I am self taught late in life on computers so what I don’t know about them would a book. Perhaps several books. But I use my computer (Windows 11) every day. On the recommendation of a friend who knows more than I do, I recently purchased a 3 year subscription to CCleaner Pro and it seems to be working. On the same day it went active, Avast appeared on my desk top. I noticed that the file for Avast is much bigger than that for CCleaner which is also on my desk top. Silly question perhaps but what is Avast? since so far as I know I didn’t pay for it. For now I’ll leave it alone. I did try to query CCleaner help but either got ignored or sent a list of videos to watch. For time management, I’m hoping to short circuit that task with comments here. TIA.
Avast is a large, well known, software company, it is part of the same group (Gen Digitall) as Piriform/CCleaner, along with Norton and others.
What you have on your desktop is probably the Avast antivirus, which can be offered as an extra when you install CCleaner.
It is easy to decline it, but if you are not paying attention and just click ‘Accept’ then it will be installed.
You can uninstall it if you don’t want it.
To do that you are usually best using the official Avast removal tool.
