What file type is BUK?

HI,

I spent 11hrs recovering around 900Gb of data from external hard drive to another hard drive, when I did the first scan it found around 14000 files, I then went to recover what it found to the other location.

This is now what I have recovered:

A folder named _MSTBKS

Then located in that folder is a file named MST_BKS.IDX followed by files MST0001.BUK numbered consecutively to MST14898.BUK.

I dont know this file type and how do I restore my data to the format I want it in, such as videos, mp3's etc?

Cheers!

Sounds like a backup, you should just be able to change the file name and extension. eg mst14898.buk -> mst14898.idx

Thanks for the suggestion....OK I was able to change the file name, IDX is a movie subtitle file type (after looking it up on the web), but it wont open in windows 7. The 14898 files that Recuva found when scanning and restoring to another hard drive are a mix of different data types. How am I able to get Windows to identify which types they are?

I'm rather confused. Are you saying that the files you recovered from the external drive had normal file names but when recovered ended up in a folder called _MSTBKS, with consecutive files names with the .buk extension?

Did you create the folder _MSTBKS to hold the recovered files?

Did you run a Recuva normal or deep scan?

Are you trying to recover live or deleted files?
