I always use Firefox v.3.5.7 in navigating the Internet and that includes this forum.
Maybe a couple of days ago here in the Piriform forums, I don't know if anyone has noticed this but when I try to navigate at the forums using the Piriform Community forums link or any other forum link there at the side (Piriform Community Forums> Computer Help and Discussion>The Lounge for example) there are these files called index.php that I need to download and when I did, I deleted them anyway cause I don't know what they were. But I did not notice anything peculiar immediately.
Then later that day, I was searching for images at Google and then I have to click the images so they are shown on their full size, I had to right click them of course and click Save Image As. But after I click Save Image As, Firefox would want to save the image as URL not the standard JPEG or PNG formats for images and I can't seem to save it on another format besides URL. To save the images, I need to paste them at Paint first, then save but of course this is more of a hassle.
Later that day, I ran CCleaner's registry cleaner and I found this .php thing as an invalid extension and when I fixed it, then opened Firefox to try and save the images again, the image saving module was back to normal and the images can now be saved in standard JPEG and PNG formats.
This forum has always acted up for me since 2004, usually it's just stalling and failing to load pages.
As for the index.php that's just how the forum works and many other forums as well. Visit the PHP website and look on the upper left side for a quick description.
googeling around it seems it could be firefox or site bug fixed by refreshing...
someone using linux fixed it by clearing the firefox cache, others find its the header code on certain websites.
have you tried different versions of firefox .. though I'm using 3.5.7 without a problem, and i have randomly bumped into the issue before, don't remember fixing it tho... must have fixed itself
Seems I get my fair share of downloading index.php, but I always think its my pathetic satellite connection causing it, hard to tell really whats causing it, been ongoing for sometime on any site that uses PHP.
Well I can only remember downloading those index.php files from this forum when I tried to navigate. I think, that whenever I clicked at any link in this forum at that particular time, there would be this prompt wanting me to download the index.php files which I did for maybe 2 times but the 2 index.php files, I think had different file sizes but I deleted them both anyway.
What I do not understand is what the heck do they have in connection to Firefox's image saving module which in my experience at that time had a bug after I downloaded and deleted those index.php files.
I do not remember having come across anything like that from any other site besides this forum.

Possibility something wacky with the forum software which wouldn't be a first, or your Firefox configuration, or some Firefox addon you have installed.
You "may" be able to configure Firefox not to ask to download index.php files.
I had that happen about a year and a half ago... I don't know what happened but it just stopped. I don't know if it was forum update, Firefox update, or what. (Chrome wasn't out, and I hate IE )
