Version 7 Feedback

I have been using Ccleaner ever since the early days of Windows when the original author introduced the product as CrapCleaner. There is a old addage which particularly applies to software “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I have never had any negative feedback about this product - until now! Version 6 was clean, well designed, and easy to navigate and use - but I’m sorry to say that, IMHO, the only words that I can use are that version 7 SUCKS! This version requires far more effort to not only make any changes to what is cleaned but to clearly visualize the selections the way we could in version 6. Can we still download the latest version 6 and set to not update? For now, I have uninstalled the product and will be searching for an alternative. So sad to see such a great product turn ugly.

After reading so many of the negative comments about v7 and looking at some of the screenshots, I am staying with v6.39. What an abortion!

I upgraded to version 7 today and as a long term user I am very disappointed it seems that the automation that used to take place has been removed and the product unbundled into separate function streams. One of the Unique Selling Points about CCleaner it was simple to use and effective!

Separate issue

I also have another issue have downloaded 7 onto my main PC and laptop with out any issues. However when I try to install on my wife laptop the screen is so big I can go down enough top select the options that I know to be available.

I have tried screen resolution, text size deleted the download and reinstalled etc but I am unable to setup CCleaner 7

Gone back to version 6 :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We’ve had a few reports of this welcome screen issue and there’s a work round (it works for most):

Go into Windows Settings and set the display scale to 100%.
Run CCleaner 7 and get past the Welcome Screen.
Set your display scale back to what it was.

I know you said you checked the resolution, but did you do the scale?

Thank you for the reply I can confirm the scale is 100%.

I have gone back to Version 6

As a long-time professional managing hundreds of PCs weekly, I need to express how version 7 has broken workflows that made CCleaner indispensable:

  • Keyboard/Workflow Destroyed: No more arrow keys + spacebar + select/deselect all. 15-second initial configuration now take 3 minutes per PC—a 1200% productivity hit.

  • Cache Buried & Renamed: “Cache” moved halfway down browser sections and renamed “Internet Cache”—redundant, unnecessary, and kills muscle memory.

  • Inconsistent GUI Elements: Settings button appear in both lower-left and upper-right corners. Confusing.

  • Summary Screen Regression: Data amount on left, item count on right; no concise list or totals at the bottom. Visuals look like slides, not a professional report.

  • Overall GUI Downgrade: Overly simplified menus and sliding panels are flashy but slow down anyone who actually uses the tool efficiently.

Impact: These regressions make the tool impractical for professional use.

Please consider the needs of power users in future updates. Looks like I’m jumping ship to {Competition Software} and taking hundreds of customers with me.

As per long-standing site policy, I’ve redacted the name of a competitive software from your post. Long ago (when it was still piriform before it became a company called ccleaner before it reverted to piriform with version 7) moderators were asked not to allow these names and, even in the hard times like the release of 7, i believe in staying true to that as a moderator.

I’ve created an account just to be able to give feedback, version 7 is awful. it doesn’t work properly, it doesn’t search properly, it generally finds less than version 6 and “uninstaller” doesn’t even work AT ALL it shows there’s 0 apps. It lags on top and it’s not even the worst part. The worst part is I’m forced to update, seeing how awful version 7 is I uninstalled it and returned to version 6, but then next time I launch it I have a longer loading time and instead of opening ccleaner it forces me to install version 7 and there’s no option to cancel, go back or press anything else other than “install”. I close it and try to open it again, same thing, restart my pc, same thing. Now any time I want to use ccleaner 6 I need to re-install it.

At this point I don’t want you to fix version 7, get rid of it all together, it’s bad from how it works to how it looks. And don’t force version 7 installation. By the way that’s how uninstaller looks now, great job, it always worked perfectly and then you decided to fix it.

This worked for me

Download CCleaner 6 but don’t install it, delete version 7. disconnect from the internet and install Version 6. Once Version 6 is installed go to Options\Updates then untick these options

  1. Keep CCleaner updated automatically
  2. Send notifications when there is a new version of CCleaner

Once this has been done reconnect to the internet

I hope this helps

Solution was so simple, it worked, thank you.

I’m glad it worked for you :+1:

I agree with you Version 7 is a real mess

Not a fan of version 7. I lose all the automatic features, like auto cleanup of browser data when a browser is closed. Will be reverting to the previous version and looking for another alternative.

I’ve been using CCleaner for decades but just now joined this Community, to add my disapproval of the new, ugly, and hard to use CCleaner V7.

I’m glad to have found here a link to the older version 6.39 and instructions on how to remove v7 and go back to the older, cleaner, easier to use software that I know and love.

I also agree with previous posters who say “get rid of v7 altogether.” I hope you’ll email me if/when you ditch this crappy v7, as I won’t have “automatic update” turned on.

Last point - just this month I paid for a year’s subscription, but that’ll be the last payment I ever make if we don’t get a better CCleaner than this latest rubbish!

Yesterday I discovered the abomination that is v7. I tried to revert to v6/disable the update, and surprise, surprise, today I still have this piece of crap v7 installed, and what’s more, it’s impossible to close it without going through the task manager.
For a while now, with each update, the developers have been complicating what used to be simple and adding useless crap.
Get a grip.

Throwing my 2 cents worth in.

Version 7 is “horrible”

Someone there had a brain-spasm to “make it look pretty” No it is not suposed to look pretty, it is supposed to work. It used to work fine, all details shown clearly and precisely and in an informative way. And it looked fine as it was.

Now we are expected wade through click after click to view drop down lists and find items burried under further drop lists.

Looking at the Startup list used to be simple and clean. The checkbox was right next to the name. Now we have to look across the line from left to right, for every item, to see if the toggle is on or off. That’s just Dumb.

The Registry scan is even less useful in its current form. Why change it from something that was perfect, showed details, to this “no information displayed” version. ?

Heads up…. Graphics Designers cannot design Apps.

Moving back to V 6 right now. !

Same thing with me, already paid for year’s subscription but I’ll be looking for alternatives, once my sub ends and there are no further updates to version 6(and they keep going with their version 7) then I’M OUT.

CCleaner 7 has gone bad
the online/web installer is faulty.
Many users are unable to install CCleaner 7.

Everything belongs to Gen Digital Inc.
and the same design can be found everywhere.
The design is like AVG TuneUp, Norton Utilities, and Avast Clean
it no longer has anything to do with Easy Cleaner.

Even though the manufacturer told Chip Computer Magazin
that they wanted According to a spokeswoman, the following functions are to be added in November:
Smart Cleaning
System Monitor

System Restore Tool
Drive Wiper

But CCleaner 7 will continue to have this ugly design.
Anyone who likes this design should perhaps take a look at the other products from Gen Digital Inc.

If you don’t like it, you’ll have to look for something else.
My subscriptions have been canceled, and I won’t be installing CCleaner 7 again as long as it’s so ugly and full of bugs.
It’s also annoying that there is no German forum.
It’s a shame that nathanl’s software alternative was edited
out of the supporter’s post here.

Goodbye CCleaner, it was good while it lasted.

I agree with you one hundred percent.

It’s a shame that the alternative you posted can no longer be read because

Nergal, volunteer CCleaner demon/post interferer, edited it.

Many people are now looking for alternatives to CCleaner.

Just another voice expressing dismay at the new CCleaner 7. How anyone on the dev team could have looked at it and thought “yup, that’s better” is beyond me. What a mess. Functionality has gone, ease of use has gone, speed has gone. Terrible, just terrible.

I’ve been using CCLeaner since the good old very early days when it was honest about its name - CrapCleaner. I have recommended it to literally hundreds of people. No more.

Rolling back to 6.39 and looking for alternatives.
