Version 5.64.7577 (final Windows XP & Vista) says update to 5.75.8238 is needed

Since about a week ago, everytime I open CCleaner (vs. 5.64.7577 - final for Windows XP & Vista) a box pops up telling me an important update to version 5.75.8238 is needed. I am using Windows XP so I should not be getting this notice. If I click on update it tries to update and then gives me an error message. I downloaded and installed a new 5.64.7577 version but the update box still appears everytime I open CCleaner which is getting annoying. Please fix. Thanks.

Indeed! Windows XP and Vista cannot be updated past CCleaner 5.64 and were (or should have been) specifically excluded from the important update process when it started back in October. I have passed this through to the relevant team, but in the meantime to help us isolate what might be going on here:

  • Would you be able to provide a screenshot of the message, if it pops up again please?
  • Did you make any noteworthy changes to your computer configuration a week or so ago?

Note that this should now be fixed as of 10:00 GMT January 4th. XP and Vista users should no longer be invited to update past the sunset build of 5.64.7577.

@djpaulwb: please let us know if you see this issue recur.
