I love those V8's. Wish there was somewhere I could stream some of the races.

It hardly ever comes onto UK TV. (terrestrial)

I like them too, both the U.S. and Australia seem to have an obsession with V8's.

They do show it on U.S. TV, but only months upon months after the season has ended, which I wonder if it's some kind of licensing deal, or TV syndication of the years races.

New Zealand V8s

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

# Cars that will race include V8s, Formula 5000, Porsche GT3's.

# All V8 Supercars (which are generally considered to the noisiest), must comply

with a noise limit of 95dBA measured 30m from the track. These high noise levels

only occur for the duration of a race.V8 Supercars championships is an

Australasian motorsport series run annually and televised to 850 million homes

in 100 countries

Why would Hamilton consider hosting the V8 Supercars?

Hamilton City has the opportunity to host the largest annual event in New

Zealand for a minimum of 7 years from 2008. The race would take place annually

over 3 days, and would likely be held in the April/May each year. The other

rounds of the Championship include Bathurst, Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Gold Coast

and Bahrain.

What benefits can Hamilton expect from the event?

Expected benefits of a V8 Supercars street race held in Hamilton could include:

* 155,000 race spectators spread over the three event days

* a world wide television audience of nearly 600 million

Dozens of V8s fans paid big money for seats in the Stadium stand, only to find they can't properly see the races, and the track is obscured by a giant TV screen.

Angry V8 fans left the track yesterday furious they were unable to see cars roaring past below from their grandstand seats.

Organisers have admitted they got it wrong and have promised to improve the grandstand set-up next year.

"I can't see a thing. It is absolutely hopeless,"

"I waited four hours in the b**** rain for these six tickets."

His view up the straight is obscured by a giant TV screen and a tree, and the cars pull in too close to the left of the track before turning the corner, meaning they are obscured.

"It's really bad planning as far as I can see. It is not like they were pressed for space.

"We actually want to see the cars go past. That is what we paid for."

He said an engineer could easily have realised the grandstand seating wouldn't give spectators a good view.

She also said the picture on the giant TV screen opposite was ruined by the sun, and the glare meant the view was poor.

V8 promoter Dean Calvert acknowledged they had slipped up with the angle of the grandstand.

"We've had a number of people come up to us and express disappointment about views."

He said he went to have a look and could partially understand the concerns.

" Listen, it is our first year. We will be making changes next year, definitely.

"The amazing thing is there has only been this one grumble. "We strive to do our best and everything else has been exceptional."

When asked if organisers would consider refunds to unhappy spectators, Mr Calvert ruled out that option.

"You only get a refund if something is cancelled."

He did say affected ticket holders may get preferential booking for next year.

I go along with that,YoKenny. It makes for good background entertainment.

Doesn't slow down my PC either.Except the keyboard and mouse input tends to drop down to 0 if it's a close race or there is a terrific crash!!!

This thread was so good until that dirty six lettered word "NASCAR" entered it. :P

Obviously you can tell I don't like NASCAR, and why the hell did Juan Pablo Montoya go into it. I thought he would be more suited for a Lemans ride, or some other sports car racing series and it's a huge demotion going from Formula 1 to it.

Well maybe money speaks louder than prestige sometimes.

Plus, I think he wanted to prove he could do it.

Maybe a trip in Soyuz next?Fast 'cept there's no steering wheel!!!

P.S. Local dirt tracks are the most fun.

Especially the figure 8 bus races and Demolition Derbys.
