using the %username% switch when cleaning profiles

Hi I'm evaulating this application as a possible solution for our companies profile storage issues.

We have the Proquota app running and teh default limit is 30mb

so using CCleaner on a scheduled basis seems a good solution to clearing out cache files etc.

1.my first question is.

Like most places our matrix of applications is very very vaired. so in the include options of the application I want to specify certain folders but I want to set this up to be able to be installed Pre configured on alot of pcs.

how would i get around specifing the usersname of each individual e.g

c:\documents and settings\mt6tre\blah blah etc

I went into the advanced section and enabled save settings to ini file then went in and ammended

mt6tre

to %username%

or %userprofile%

but it doesn't seem to work.

any ideas?

2. my second question

the exclude option allows you to exclude reg keys. but you cannot Include reg keys.

reason I ask this is because we have a deployment server that pushes packaged Msi' s out onto workstation under an admin account.

so if an msi gets uninstalled all reg keys in local machine and hkuser for the admin account get removed

but if a normal users uses the app reg keys get created in their HKey current user and these will no get removed when an uninstall takes place.

3.like a few people have asked here are there any plans to add a timeed automation.

I know you can use the automation swtich but not timed. e.g once a day..

Thanks for any info/replies.

To my knowledge you shouldn't be using actual user names like "mt6tre" and should instead only use: %userprofile%

If you're using Windows XP (or newer) it will or should know to clean out junk in the logged in user profile for a user without specifying the actual user name.

Of course if there's no workaround via CCleaner for your situation there's always the ability to make a single batch file that could clean out all the stuff via an Admin account.

You can use the built into Windows Task Scheduler to fully automate CCleaner. View the CCleaner Beginner's Guide Command-line Parameters, in particular the /AUTO parameter.

Thanks for the reply...

After muddling through the construction of the Winapp2.ini I think i've answered most of my questions.

but my manager has asked me a few others which i need to get clerified.

1. I work in a corporate enviroment, I know you software says it's freeware, but does this apply to my enviroment, if this app works for us I wish to deploy it en mass to 1000+ pcs. Would there be any implications to that?

2.Is there any way to lock this app down? e.g to confirgure the app to our specification of apps then either hide it or run it as a service or restrict users running/changing settings.

I think that's it for now. cheers

The software owner MrG would be the one to give that answer.

The only way to have CCleaner run invisible or to "hide" it would be to run CCleaner with the /AUTO parameter because it doesn't show the application when using /AUTO. Of course you have to pre-configure the application first in order for it to only clean those programs you want cleaned.

You could also hide the program folder of CCleaner, just right click the folder and select Hidden. And if you don't want anyone messing with the settings, obviously remove any shortcuts that point to CCleaner or move the shortcuts to the Admin account.
