usb ports don't work after running drive wiper

Ran drive wiper (entire disk, not just free space) on an external drive and it reported success. I reconnected it and my Windows 11 PC said I couldn't use it until formatting it. I took the direction to format it, and I believe the default was NFTS. The format was supposedly successful but now none of my usb ports will recognize any external drive, including previously used flash drives that weren't wiped.

Please help.

Sorry, all is now well. I was reluctant to try rebooting the PC, but when I did it woke up and recognized drives inserted in the USB ports. Phew.

Check in Device Manager that you are not allowing Windows to turn off the USB controller to save power.
