Upon launching the “custom cleanup”, I do receive a message from you requesting permission to close WhatsApp

Dear Sirs,

I have used your app for many years. I use Windows 11 24H2 x 64, which is updated regularly.

I find your product excellent for registry cleaning, but not so effective for updating drivers. When I run manual checks from Device Manager, the drivers you recommend are rarely accepted.
I have never attempted to improve the speed of my PC as you suggest.
In the latest version of the tool, I chose the deletion of WhatsApp (WA) log and cache files, but not the archive file. Upon launching the “custom cleanup”, I do receive a message from you requesting permission to close WA. This occurs even though I have never used that application during the specified work session and have configured WA to prevent automatic opening after the launch of Windows 11.
What is the proper interpretation of this phenomenon? I would like to inquire about the purpose of META opening WA without my consent. Additionally, I would like to understand whether CCleaner needs to open WA in the background to clean its log and cache files.
I appreciate your reply and extend my best regards.
Roberto

That warning is to tell you that an app (or service) is running and needs to be closed to be able clean it’s logs/caches/temporary files.
Often it, or a part of it, may be running it the background - We see that a lot with browsers.

So CCleaner thinks that your WhatsApp is open/running somewhere and asking you for permission to close and clean it.

Have you looked in Task Manager to see if it is running?
Even though you have set it not to open without your consent there could be a Scheduled Task that is running it on startup. It may even be a simple as a WA update tool running in the background.
See if Task Manager says anything WA connected is running, or look in CCleaners Tools>Startup and check the tabs there for it (probably unser ‘Scheduled Tasks’ but check the other tabs as well).
If it’s there you can disable it from CCleaner:

Thank you for your reply. I proceeded in accordance with the provided instructions. After reviewing the Tools menu, I was unable to locate any WA-related processes.

The described phenomenon persists unchanged.

Is it the whatsapp from the microsoft store app? I can’t recreate this. I installed the store app. opened ccleaner and cleaned whatsapp, it asked me to close it and I said yes, it closed it and cleaned. I then cleaned again without opening whatsapp and it did not prompt me to close it. This is with the Start at windows login set to on in WhatsApp settings. I’ll keep the app for a bit incase you can provide more tests I can do. Of the three WhatsApp entries in ccleaner I had all three checked to clean.

The issue at hand is that he has requested that I close WA in the second round of custom cleaning.

Could you please clarify why it is open and why it prompts permission to close?

Could you please clarify why it was open if it does not have permission to open automatically when Windows launches?

In my experience, after closing CCleaner and WA the first time, if I reopen CCleaner without ever using WA, it still prompts me to close WA in the second round.

It is an intriguing phenomenon, is it not?

I would like to express my gratitude once again for your consideration of my concerns.

Best regards,

Are you on Windows 11? if so (without opening WhatsApp after last clean of WhatsApp) can you do the following
Right click the Header of WhatsApp under ccleaner>custom clean>Applications
Choose clean whatapp
When you get the warning to close whatsapp don’t click anything
Open Task Manager and type in the search box at top Whats
here is what i got when following those instructions

ignore where it says edge, that’s the open window to this topic

After clicking close the WhatsApp process was left with runtime broker running, this may mean that WhatsApp has a keep alive code which reopens it after an initial opening. Haven’t tried rebooting with start at login off and see if it magically loads itself.
