Hello,

I have a suggestion for CCleaner Cloud that is very important for me and that can make CCleaner Cloud much more powerful.

It would be very useful if CCleaner Cloud checks my installed software for updates and reports them to me.

Then the user can install the updates with one mouse click.

Here especially security updates for vulnerabilities (like Adobe Flash, Java, etc.) should be reported, but also normal updates of installed applications and games (like Microsoft Office, Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla Thunderbird).

This would make the system safer, because up-to-date applications are normally less vulnerable than older versions that have known security isuues.

There are some applications on the market, but none of them is really working well:

  • Secunia Personal Software Inspector (it reports only security updates, no normal updates)
  • S.U.Mo (has a small database so not all updates are found, database is not always up-to-date and some reported updates are already installed)
  • Software Informer (has a large database but does not find all installed applications, database is not not always up-to-date and some reported updates are already installed)

I really tested all of them, Secunia PSI works best but only reports security patches.

S.U.Mo and Software Informer have many problems.

CCleaner Cloud already knows what applications I have installed, so this information should be used.

So your servers can determine if there are required updates and then inform me (by email like you do it now if there are changes on my systems).

I think this could be also very useful for companies that use CCleaner Cloud.

They can install a new version of an application on all managed PCs with one click.

Saves them to buy other expensive applications.

It really would be very useful when CCleaner Cloud lists updates for my computers and allows to install them with one click.

A feature I would be willing to pay money for (even if I just have 3 computers to manage).

Keeping all computers here up to date from a single browser instance would really help a lot.

please also consider a way how users can Report missing applications an report new Versions of existing apps to the Agomo database.

Other update manager offer a web-form where you can report updates.

Hello,

now where Agomo is out of Beta and is renamed to CCleaner Cloud I think this suggestion is needed more than ever.

It would be cool to have one tool that cleans up my PC and informs me when there are some patches / updates that are ready to be installed.

Hello,

normally I am not a user that in "bloating" his own topics, but meantime something happened to a good friend of mine: he lost all his data!

He did not keep the "Adobe Flash Player" up to date (first mistake) and he was using the Internet Explorer as default browser (second mistake).

He got infected by a drive-by-injection and a encryption trojan infected his system.

All his files were encrypted and now they are deleted.

Although he was using a virus scanner.

So when CCleaner Cloud would tell him that the "Adobe Flash Player" is not up to date and allows him to update the Flash Player with one click, then this would not have happened.

I am sure that this would have prevented the data loss.

So please consider my suggestion.

It is not just a "nice" feature, it is a very important security feature!

Hello,

I have some new suggestions for the "Update Manager" feature.

Update Drivers

It would be very useful when CCleaner Cloud also would keep my installed hardware (drivers) up to date.

This is a feature that is really missing in other update managers and really increases the stability and performance of the system.

Portable Applications

I have on my D:\ drive a folder, where I have 98 portable applications.

There are smaller tools like System Explorer, FreeFileSync, KeePass and many others.

But I also have all major browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera) as portable apps and also Libre Office, Skype, TeamViewer and others.

About 50% of those applications are are automatically updated.

But the other 50% I have to update manually (and check if there is an update available.

So please allow to add custom folders, that are also watched for portable applications.

Browser Extensions

You should also check if the Add-Ons and Plug-Ins in the browser are up to date.

This increases the security level a lot (this is the reason why Secuna PSI scans also the browser extensions).

Windows 10 Apps

You show available Windows Upates (in Sofware -> Windows Update).

Maybe you also can show available updates from the Windows 10 Store.

I know that these apps should be updated automatically, but when I go to the store and check for updates then I often see available updates (so the auto-update seems not always to work).

This feature has a very low priority.

Default Action for Updates

Please let the user select in the settings, what should happen wen there is an update available:

  • Automatically download and install new updates (default setting)
  • Automatically download updates but let the user install the update
  • Only notify if there is an update available

Detected Application

I really hope that CCleaner Cloud offers updates for all installed applications and not just for applications that I have installed via CCleaner Cloud.

Warning at Critical Applications

When I have applications installed, that are no longer supported by the vendor (like Apple QuickTime) please warn the user and suggest to uninstall the application.

Also for dangerous apps like Adobe Flash you should show a warning (when an older version is installed).

Hello,

if you plan to implement the update manager, please offer also a way where the user can skip a specific application and also a specific version.

  • Skip an application

    This excludes the application from the update process (the user will no longer get informed when an update for this application is available)

  • Skip a specific version

    The user gets only informed when a new release is published, no matter what type of release (major release or minor release) it is.

    Example: user has version 6.5 installed, 6.5.1 is offered and he skips this version (6.5.1), then he gets only informed when a version higher than 6.5.1 is released.

  • Skip a major version.

    If the user skips a major version, then he does not get informed when a minor update within the major release is published.

    Example: user has version 6.5 installed and version 7.1 is offered.

    When he skips this major version, then all updates of version 7.x are not shown, but he gets informed when 6.6 is released.

    Useful for applications you have to buy the new version and the user does not want to buy the next release (but he wants to get updates for the current release).

Skipping is useful to keep the list of available updates small.

And to get only informed when an relevant update is offered.

again an enhancement for the (hopefully already in development) Update-Manager:

Notify about new versions even when the target system is offline

CCleaner Cloud knows what applications and what versions of the applications I have installed.

So you can inform the user by email when a new version of an installed application is available.

And you can inform the user even when the target computer is offline.

Reason:

I have my PC running every day, but my wife turns on her laptop not very often.

So it would be useful when I get informed that on her PC some applications needs to be updated.

Hello,

a new enhancement for the "Update Manager" feature:

Replaced applications

Please show a warning, when an installed application is no longer available (form the vendor) because it is replaced by an other application.

Example:

I have a Canon printer and some tools from Canon installed.

Today I checked if there are news versions of these tools available but on the Canon website the tool Canon Solution Menu EX is no longer available.

A Google search led me to the following page: http://www.canon.de/support/pixma_software/

At this page you can read the following passage in German language: Beachten Sie bitte, dass Quick Menu Solution Menu EX ersetzt.

Translated into English language: Please note that Canon Solution Menu is replaced by Quick Menu.

It would be very cool when CCleaner Cloud would report this to me.

So I could download the new application (for the old application I will never receive an update, so normal update managers fail here).

Hello,

and again an suggestion.

Check for BIOS / Firmware Updates

I have many hardware devices, where the BIOS / Firmware can receive updates:

  • Motherboard
  • SSD from Samsung
  • SSD from Crucial
  • Router (Fritz! Box)
  • Logitech G633 headset
  • Logitech G500s mouse
  • Logitech G19s keyboard

It would be cool when CCleaner Cloud tells me that there is an update for the firmware available.

I really don't know if there is a standard way to get the firmware information, but it really would be cool.

This way CCleaner cloud would show me update of my installed apps, updates of my drivers and also updates of the firmware of my devices.

Wow, this would be fantastic!

The preinstalled update tools of PC manufacturers should make the systems of users safer, but in reality they often are the cause of severe attacks.

Int he article they write that the best the users can do is to get rid of those update tools.

After that users must manually check for new software and drivers on the manufacturers website.

This where this suggestion comes in.

If CCleaner Cloud has an updater that is used by many users, then CCleaner Cloud is the best solution for all users.

And maybe you can convince manufacturers and software developers to report new applications and drivers to your service.

This suggestion should help you to fill the database of known applications (and their version numbers).

You have many users using CCleaner (desktop).

In CCleaner (desktop) you also have a list of installed applications.

It would be cool when this information is sent by CCleaner (desktop) to your update servers.

To be on the save side (concerning data security and privacy) you should inform the user and ask if this data can be uploaded to the Piriform servers.

You also should anonymize the data, so there is no way for you to see what software a specified user has installed (it should not be possible to create a complete list of the installed software of a single user.

Then you should inform the user that you respect his privacy.

With the help of thousands of CCleaner (desktop) users you can easily fill the database of known applications.

I suggested that the installed applications from CCleaner (Desktop) users is uploaded to the CCleaner Cloud servers.

So when a CCleaner (Desktop) user installs a new version of an application, this information is uploaded to the CCleaner Cloud servers.

Then this information is verified by Piriform (if this is a common update or jut a nightly build).

If it is a normal update this information is spread to all CCleaner Cloud users (they get a notification that there is an update available).

Reason: there are thousands of CCleaner (Desktop) users so their installed applications (and versions) is very helpful to fill such an update database.

today I read on a German PC magazine that Kaspersky implemented an software updater in Kaspersky Total Security 2017:

I really don't know if there are many differences between the Beta and the version they implemented in Total Security 2017.

But that Kaspersky implements an Software Updater to Total Security 2017 shows how important an software updater is.

This is the next argument why CCleaner Cloud (and maybe also CCleaner) should have an Update Manager.
