unwanted AOL

have just bought a new Philips PC form PC WORLD which has AOL software pre-loaded. How do I uninstall - it seems to be invisible when you try to do this.

Many thanks

If you do not want it go to Add/Remove programs, should be there.... If not there may be a valid reason, otherwise delete the files manually, and clean up the registry by searching for aol in the registry and deleting the entrys that are found with RegSeeker:

http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm#

Though this is not highly recommeneded, there may be an uninstaller on the internet....

Look in add remove programs if its not there than its probably just a link to the AOL site on your desktop.(which you could just delete).

If you're saying that it's not listed in Add/Remove programs, you could use CCleaner's uninstall utility. Works like a charm.

If it's not listed in CCleaner's uninstall utility, load to safe mode, edit the msconfig file so that any AOL process doesn't load on a normal boot. Boot normally, and try then.

It is probably preloaded with other things too, that wouldnt surprise me.

If you have a Windows disc, maybe you would prefer to format the computer and do a complete reinstallation.

You can also complain to the store where you bought the PC.

If you really had AOL installed, it may leave a lot of garbage behind. Used an AOL free trial as a temporary expedient one time, it left all kinds of bits scattered around. I eventually did a search for anything with AOL in the file name, apparently got ot all. Norton, however, wasn't that easy...
