Unable to add Linux distro to Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) with CCleaner installed

I run BOINC Manager on my machine. I need to install a docker, Podman for example, and add a Linux application.

When I try to add the Linux distribution to WSL I get an error message, I also see an error message when trying to add a container to Podman and both fail.

I researched online and found CCleaner could be causing a conflict. I removed CCleaner and I was able to add both the Linux distro and create a Podman container. Now they are working I’m loathe to re-install CClener until I can be sure it won’t cause further issues.

I have no idea why there appears to have been a clash, but CCleaner is primarily a junk/temporary file cleaner.

CCleaner isn’t an AV or a Firewall that might block installations, it’s just a file cleaner so shouldn’t stop anything from installing or running.
Although the Performance Optimizer can put some things to ‘Sleep’ when they are idle they should ‘wake’ again when needed.

Maybe if you ran the Registry Cleaner after something new was installed then that might wipe a reg entry that was needed, maybe a WSL entry, and stop the newly installed whatever from working, - but that isn’t what you describe.
(You didn’t run the Registry Cleaner did you? I’m also wondering if you may have run it previously and removed one or more entries that WSL needed?)

Other than that then if your desired setup runs as you want it to without CCleaner installed then that would seem to be the solution.
