Trying to wipe a drive, access denied

Hello!

This is probably a common error, but I’m new to this program and searched the forums for a bit and couldn’t really find much related to my specific problem, so I figured I’d start a thread to see if I could get some help.

Apologies for any noobish business.

Anywho, I just aquired a PC from a friend and want to wipe a drive on it. One of the drives © is titled OS and has a windows symbol floating above it, so I’m guessing the OS is on that drive. Naturally, I want to erase all the info on the other drive labeled DATA (D). I went into Ccleaner to do this, and after typing the prompted ERASE security precaution, all I get is a dialogue box that says “Access Denied” and my only option is to click “ok”.

To help you out, yes I have run the program as administrator with the same results.

My knowledge of the tech world is moderate, please be patient :)

I would simply go into My Computer, right click on the D:\ drive, select Format, leaving the other default settings as is.

If you just want a quick format (where data can be retrieve if someone has the tools, time & talent), click Start.

If you want something like a 'drive wipe' like you were trying to do in CC, untick Quick Format to perform a low-level wipe of the drive.

Be warned, on a 500gig drive, this could take over an hour.

thank you very much!
