Everytime I try to run the Registry Cleaner on CCleaner, my system stops working and goes to a black screen.
Any help or advice please? I'm running XP Pro and CCLeaner v3.03.1366 if that helps.

What service pack do you have, SP3?
What security software do you run?
Is there a reason why you are trying to clean the registry, have you had a virus infection or something like that?
Have you had any other computer problems lately?
By the way the latest ccleaner version is 3.8. 1475

I was looking in there to see if there were any problems, I've done it often before but never had the black screen problems.

I recently had a graphics card failure but that's really all.

I'll update to the newer version, thanks for the help
Perhaps there is a chance that Eset is trying to defend itself against any of its registry keys being deleted. Just a thought.

I guess it's a possibility but I can't understand why I've been able to run the programme in the past and not now.
try to figure out what reg entry you are cleaning that is causing it.
to do this (and when doing the reg from now on) follow the advice in my signature
I'm also getting a complete crash - black screen - when I run CCleaner registery cleaner. But it crashes during the check, BEFORE I execute the "clean" part. Happened 3 times this morning. First time I've ever had this happen.
Yesterday I removed AVG antivirus and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Tried disabling MSE during most recent CCleaner registry clean attempt, still crashed. Running XP on an old Dell desktop.
Does the Application and System event logs (eventvwr.exe) show anything interesting??

If you haven't already done so try running the AVG remover tool to make sure all was uninstalled

I highly doubt that this is the same issue, please start your own thread as to not detract from the original poster's question
