System crash

When I run the registry cleaner, it crashes the system. This is only detectable when I restart the computer or try running program. I get an error message about side by side configuration. The only way to get my computer up and running is to restart in safe mode and run system restore. This has happened about 5-6 times over the last 12 months. I have no option other than to remove ccleaner unless there is a 'fix'

stop cleaning everything in the registry section. There is nothing wrong with ccleaner. The Wrong thing is you keep removing items your computer still needs. Please see my registry advice in my signature

As Nergal says, it probably isn't the fault of CCleaner.

I've never heard of this although there's an awful lot of google hits popped up by "Side by Side Configuration", and although not unique to it, most of them seem to be related to Vista.

Have a read here for some basic info, and don't be surprised if you don't understand some of it as you're not alone in that.

Side by Side Configuration Incorrect:

The main thing is that this error should generate entries in the "Event Viewer", and if you find them that should, with any luck tell you what is causing the "Side by Side" error in the first place. It appears to be something missing from the "WinSxS" folder in "C:\Windows"

How To Use the Event Viewer:

Have a look at the above, check the Event Viewer, and come back and tell us if you've found anything positive.

Although it may not be due to CCleaner, we'd still like to help you find the cause of your problem which must be worrying as well as being a pain-in-the-backside.

Side By Side errors are related to the dependency libraries stored in C:\Windows\WinSxS which are missing or corrupted.

Sometimes applications will generate SxS errors and still continue normally, however since you having booting problems I would strongly suggest you run "chkdsk.exe c: /r" and try to patch the faulty / missing files:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package

If you need further help to resolve SideBySide errors then Dependency Walker should be able to assist you.
