Stop the US from censoring the Internet!

This topic was here yesterday, but due to the forum crash, it was deleted. As a result, I'm posting it again today.

If a pair of bills on Capitol Hill, called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP, pass, you could be fined and thrown in jail for streaming (i.e., "performing") your video game speed runs or game play. Just as people post cute pictures and videos of themselves, their pets and their kids singing and dancing to copyrighted works, gamers of all ages routinely post pics and stream video of themselves during game play. All of these things have, for the most part, been considered "fair use" under the law. Tens of thousands of videos currently available online featuring game play from popular games like Call of Duty, Halo, Starcraft and others could be made illegal under these laws.

Do not let this bill pass! Speak out and fight back:

This will affect everyone who loves to use the Internet. Do not let the fools in Congress take away the freedom that is contained within the Internet! Sign the petitions, pass the word, call your local congressmen, and do whatever you can to stop this bill!

Also the US Department of Justice wants to make it illegal to lie online. This includes using a false name on Facebook. I lost the relevant article, but holy crap is that stupid.

Makes you wonder what sort of idiots we really have running this country.

Pokey time for fibbing 'bout your age?

Makes you wonder what sort of idiots we really have running this country.

People too old to understand the widespread and adverse effects of trying to control the internet.

Apparently, we live in 1940's Germany.

To My Good Friend Icedrake,

Oh, now you have tread into my territory. I am a card-carrying government watching activist and have signed so many petitions on issues my fingers are bleeding. I could not wait to sign the petition you posted and will add this to my list. Thank you so much for presenting this to the Forum. We must fight these infringements vigorously. Take care and thanks again.

Perhaps Google and I.S.P. suppliers could accidentally misunderstand the next Take-down Notice,

with the result that all DNS servers target the wrong destination - every American Government website goes off-line for a week.

No one would object to sending liars to prison - if they start on the politicians who break their election promises

That would be perfect! :D

@Warlock: No problem, just helping to fight back against this ridiculousness.

Hurrah for Sandia Labs

The Stop Online Piracy Act is "unlikely to be effective," says official from Sandia National Laboratories, part of the U.S. Department of Energy.

(note the majority of Scientists at Sandia are the U.S. government's Finest, Smartest Minds.)

That would be perfect! :D

It would be perfect. First in line: obama for lying about trying to keep net neutrality. :D

edit: Reddit's view on congress:

This is ridiculous. Besides, sometimes a lie is a good thing.

Suppose you knew the exact location of your parents, but a robber held u up at gunpoint & demanded to know where they are.

Would you:

A: Lie to the robber, & tell him you do not know where they are at. Or,

B: Yes, I know where they are at! Go ahead & shoot them, please!

It is obvious, that any sane person would lie & do so to protect the ones they love.

Politicians have proven to be the worst liars, so trying to abolish lying is like the pot calling the kettle black. Not happening.

NEVER let anyone run over your freedoms!

We are not going to talk about using guns on people here Super Fast.

I doubt Piriform would agree with lawlessness and guns being advocated on their public forum.

Try to keep to the 'spirit' of the topic.

@hazel - while I wont go into that topic, I wouldn't be totally surprised if violent revolts began.

Every day, I read articles about the government doing stupid things, wasting time on strange legislature instead of fixing the economy.

That, coupled with the abuses by police (violently beating peaceful protestors saying they're "armed" (in this case, meaning they're linking arms forming a chain), throwing flash bangs into crowds trying to help the injured, treating protestors worse than our enemies in Afganistan and Iraq, and corrupt politicians being 'bought' by companies..

Someone said yesterday the best thing I can think to sum up the current situation..

"The right to assembly is being crushed; the Internet is on the verge of censorship; the legislative body of the most powerful nation in human history has declared pizza a vegetable. We are no longer citizens, we're the sane inmates in an asylum run by psychopaths and sociopaths."

I now realise why the forum closed down yesterday.

It was Icedrake's petition / post that caused it.

The C.I.A or US Department of Justice or some such party decided to perform a surgical strike to remove the post,

and in typical U.S. military style there was collateral damage

As I said, the lounge is not meant to be a political platform. Tread carefully or the thread may get closed.

Congress says pizza is a vegetable. Besides, tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable. Seriously, how much dumber can these people get?

Yeah, I found that weird too. The logic makes sense, but goes wrong when they say it's a vegetable
