Still cannot open

I downloaded and paid for CCleaner PRO and installed it it. When I click on the shortcut or go to my program files and try to start it, it fails. It says "cannot find C:\Program Files\ccleaner\ccleaner64.exe". What now ? I do not have CCleaner64. I have CCleaner Pro. I have the receipt and license key. Sure need some help folks.

Ccleaner64 is an executable it's the program that runs ccleaner on a 64 bit machine.

Check c:\program file\ccleaner for the file, if it's not there reinstall ccleaner

Download CCleaner Free from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

Once it's downloaded double click on "ccsetup619.exe" to install CCleaner.

Open CCleaner and go to Options > Licence Key.

Enter your licence key as prompted and it will change to CCleaner Pro.

Thanks for the suggestions I received but, nothing worked. Here is where Im at. I deleted all instances of CCleaner. I redownloaded CCleaner. I installed it. I clicked the run CCleaner. Nothing happened. I went to my desktop and clicked on CCleaner icon. The same pop-up came up. It says "cannot find CCleaner 64.exe". ok. I went to program filesand looked at the CCleaner setup files. There it was, 64.exe. I clicked it on and it says, you guessed it, cannot find 64exe. ok, i clicked the other files and everyone I clicked said it could not find it. Hey gang, now what?

Are you using Win 10?

If so make sure you have your system set up to show file extensions in File Explorer.

It sounds as if your antivirus may be blocking CCleaner from launching.

What AV are you using?

I'm using TotalAV

Hazelnut. Thank you. I looked and found that file extensions were not clicked and checked it. Sorry, but still no go. Everything I click thats on CCleaner, it comes back "could not find". no matter what I highlight after downloading a new copy says could not find even if Im clicling on the file.

Have you tried right-clicking on the file and selecting 'run as administrator'?

And when you go to

https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

Make sure you install the Slim version.

I would also try disabling the AV temporararily and seeing it that lets CCleaner open.

If it does then you can re-enable the AV and make CCleaner an Exception/allowed/whitelisted in it. (whichever one the AV calls it).

We do see it sometimes where a change/update to an AV's definitions will suddenly start to block CCleaner when it didn't before, it usually gets corrected later.

Sometimes it's because it's a new CCleaner version that the AV doesn't recognise at first.

(Certain AVs are more prone to throwing up such False Positives than others, make your own mind up what that tells you about those AVs).

PS. If you have something else that has changed your firewall settings, or have changed them yourself, then that can also prevent CCleaner from opening.

@spurz

Are you able to create a new Windows local account as a test ? ( don't do the Microsoft account one )

You may have an issue with the profile you are using which is preventing CCleaner from installing.

https://www.digitalcitizen.life/create-add-user-windows-11/

If this is a step to far for you I understand.

As something on your machine appears to be interfering with opening the installed CCleaner then I'd try using the uninstalled portable version.

 1. Go to the CCleaner builds page: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds
 2. Scroll to the bottom and download the Portable build, (you can leave it in your downloads folder, or put it on a USB stick).
 3. Browse to the downloaded ccsetup620.zip file in File Explorer and open it, (in Win10/11 just double-click it to open like a folder).
 4. Double-click the CCleaner64.exe and in the pop-up select 'Run' when it asks, see if that opens CCleaner Free version for you.

Let us know how you go with trying that.

If the Portable will run for you then it does point to something on your particular machine blocking the installed version.

I did as you said. CCleaner downloaded and installed perfectly. I went to the 64exe. file , clicked it and the same message came (cannot find 64exe. its here, but something is stopping it.

Did you read my instructions above? I did not tell you to install anything,

I said to run ccleaner64.exe directly from the downloaded zip file.

If you do that and ccleaner64.exe in the zip file is also 'not found' when you double click it, and so unable to launch from the zip, then that would suggest to me that there is probably an issue with you Windows installation.

Windows should be able to 'find' and run app executables when you double-click them.

So we need to take a look at your Windows to see what the issue might be.

Firstly: Go to Start>Settings>System>About and screenshot the Windows specifications like this, or tell us (in this thread not by DM) exactly what each of these 5 specifications says on your machine:

<img alt="Capture.JPG" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="18355" data-ratio="79.68" data-unique="ey20447ei" width="758" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2024_01/Capture.JPG.5373c42debe19897f12fda691e824dd1.JPG">

Next:

Open the Windows Start menu and type: command

It should show you Command Prompt - click: Run as administrator

image.png

In the command Window that opens type: sfc /scannow and press Enter.

That will run a scan to check and if needed repair any Windows file system errors, it should take about 10 or 20 minutes, let it finish.

Let us know (in this thread not by DM) what it says when it has finished the scan.
