I deleted a folder in a usb external hard drive. I haven't written anything to the drive since. I downloaded recurva to try to recover the files. It installed fine but after selecting all files and J: drive the program seems to hang at stage 1 of 2 99% done and started with 0 seconds left. An hour later it says the same but 10 seconds left. The hard disk activity light on the computer is blinking but the one on J is on steadily.
I am on a Dell Studio 17 with Win 7 home premium 64 bit.
Yesterday I ran the program on C: almost the same thing happened except if found 4343 files before hanging. It ran a total of about 4 hours.
