Someone told me that despite the fact that I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware and Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2008 and run a scan with these 3 once a week - and the fact that I also have SpywareBlaster installed, that I still should be using Spybot Search and Destroy as well.
Naturally I have heard of SS&D, but is it really that great that I would need it in addition to the others I have?
I really value the opinion of all of you, so I thought I would ask for your thoughts on this.
Spybot S&D is good but I have stopped using it since using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware MBAM as it takes ages to run and finds nothing on my XP Pro system.
Its HOSTS file is of dubious quality.
I have it on my 2.4GHZ P4 XP Home system and I disable the HOSTS file then do an update then let it run for its 1/2 hour or so just to see if it finds anything but it never does.
I don't use SUPERAntiSpyware as it is bloated but it is a good application.
I don't use Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2008 because it never finds anything on my systems.
I use SpywareBlaster and keep it updated.
I am a "Safe Surfer" and that is why I don't use those applications and I do recommend them to people that I help to remove infections from their systems.

Thanks for your time.
Hi razz,
I use the same security set-up as you.
Avast with 3 shields active. Auto update of course.
Malwarebytes I update each day(10-15 secs.) and run a Quick Scan . Mainly because it is so fast (6-8 mins) even with Avast running(no conflicts) and I have other users on this PC who sometimes have "unsafe surfing habits". This way I can quickly show them the results. I run a Full Scan once a week.
I use IE7 with IE7Pro add-on and Ad Blocker enabled. This cuts down on other users "unsafe habits" tremendously.
SUPERAntiSpyware I update each day. Keep it ready for use and scan 1 a week maybe.
SpywareBlaster I update everyday. I would not run without it .
Every now and then I will use an Online Scanner such as ESET. Infrequently but I do it.
Anything else is just extra work as far as I am concerned.
I have Spybot / MBAM / AntiVir. (run once a week, update everyday). but I maintain a clean comp.
I've never, unfortunately, used SUPERAntiSpyware OR SpywareBlaster (as I'm generally distrustful of programs until I am assured it's clean... is it clean and does it work? )
SpywareBlaster has been around since 2003 and is one of the most recommended anti-malware preventing applications available.
It is one of the best as it does not consume system resources as it just blocks malware by listing its CLSID signature and setting a "kill bit" in the registry to prevent the malware from running.
