Speccy not reporting correct memory speed?

Hi,

I have ran speccy in order to query the performance of a new Tier 1 lappy. Running VMware workstation seems slower than on my old machine so wanted to check out why. Had a look at the memory of the device, Core 2 4Gb (800mhz according to the book) and Speccy reports 533Mhz FSB ram running at 399Mhz. However, the manufacturer is insisting the memory is actually 800mhz and questions the Speccy software accuracy. They have tested another, faster machine with Speccy and suggest on a more advanced machine with a Core i3 and 4GB of memory at 1066Mhz Speccy is stating that it is a 533Mhz unit.

Would appreciate some advice as the supplier have been great but I need to know if the s/w is accurate.

I may be wrong, but speccy shows my 800mhz (ddr2 pc-6400) as 401mhz as well, so what I think is that because DDR2 has a double data rate, it might have something to do with that.

i'm using DDR3 1600mhz, and Speccy report me 802mhz. Maybe the programmers will do some fix about this problem someday.

Can you post some .speccy files so we can have a look at these in more detail?

Hello~

I may have a similar problem but not really sure. I just purchased pc2-4200 (533) and speccy is reporting it as being pc2-6400 (800).

Still, I think in slot#2 speccy reported it as pc2-4300 when I believe the sticker on the ram chip read

pc2-4200.

The pc2-6400 reported by speccy may or may not be pc2-6400. I just bought this and maybe they tagged it wrong@pc2-4200 at the factory.

i'm using DDR3 1600mhz, and Speccy report me 802mhz. Maybe the programmers will do some fix about this problem someday.

This isn't a problem at all - read how DDR memory works here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM

Hello, CPU Temp is not being displayed and RAM speed is showing 400 Mhz although I'm using 800 Mhz sti9cks. See attached clip. Thanks for this great tool I'm counting on it for up to date system info.

Capture.PNG

Speccy reports 800 on a dual channel 1600 and 400 on a dual channel 800. Thats because there is 400 to each channel for 800mghz, and aprox. 800 per channnel for 1600mghz. That particular specification is per channel. Read the link above to see how Double data rate works.

I have DDR3 1600mhz 8gb (4gb HyperX Blu and 4gb Corsair? Valueram)

Speccy shows 439mhz

and if you try Speccy with just one of those chips at a time, does it show 800MHz each time?
