Hi! Could somebody tell me if I have to multiply x2 the RAM speed given in Speccy? I have an AMD Lenovo Y700 Gaming Laptop with 8GB DDR3 Dual channel RAM at 1600 MHz . Speccy reports it at 798 MHz, though. Is that normal?

Just to clarify, so my RAM ISN'T operating at a lower speed? PS: Task manager shows 800mhz.

the way I think about it is, your ram IS running at 800MHz.

it does so with 800 on the up cycle AND 800 on the down cycle, giving a transfer rate of 1600MHz..

but not really an area I've ever dug into more deeply than knowing, 1600MHz is still faster than 1333 but not as fast as 1866.

Yes, 1600MHz is the effective rate.

(don't forget what DDR stands for - Double Data Rate)

For the layman, Speccy would benefit in 'sprucing up the reporting' by including clock speed AND data transfer rate (even if it is basic math). The layman would also benefit from a clickable '?' button that opens a pop-up with details of clock/data rate. It's obviously not the 1st time, nor the last time, that this question will arise.
