I am running XP SP2 and get the message

'The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it on all items in the summary?

WMI service needs to be enabled and started I believe

There's a program called "Windows Repair" (www.tweaking.com) that can help you to solve this WMI problem. Run the program and make sure that you - at least - tick the box "Repair WMI". It will reset WMI.
