SoftwareDistribution "Download" folder.

The folder in "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" tends to get pretty filled up and is really unnecessary. It's the folder where Windows Update downloads all the updates to and extracts them there. Once the updates have been successfully installed, the installation files are pointless to keep. Now, I understand cleaning the folder can ruin in-progress paused downloads that some people might need to resume, but maybe CCleaner could detect it's "Date modified" or "Date created" values on the files and folders inside the "Download folder". What do you guys think?

Search the net and you will find opinions pro and con about deleting the contents. CC risks angering users if tinkering with that folder causes problems.

My folder occupies only 51.9MB disk space -- a scant amount to justify inviting a headache.

search this forum and you will find the same also much more cons than pros

That folder can be a very bad thing to clean out if certain services aren't stopped first. Then again that folder can cause allot of problems if it actually needs cleaned out such as some Windows Updates failing to install.

Since I'm still on XP I can use Dial-a-fix which properly stops those certain services that must be stopped first. I don't however know of any other software in particular which can clean out the SoftwareDistribution folder, and more importantly stop those certain services that must be stopped first before cleaning it. I guess we just need DjLizard the Dial-a-fix author to update it to support all Windows versions!
