Software Updater - Prereleases

I was using the software updater, and it hung up on downloading LibreOffice. I cancelled, and checked their website for info on their latest release. Turns out I did have it, but CCleaner was trying to install a prelease version. Don’t know how often that happens, but I would guess most folk do NOT want to install anything but a stable base. Any way to check and avoid trying to install preleases, beta versions, whatever?

if ccleaner says that an update for a program, or a driver, is available, check to see if an update actually is available, as you did in this case.

Appreciate the response, but that wasn’t quite my question. This is supposed to be an automated process, so if I have a list of potential updates I have to check before approving, not sure how much benefit it is. The real question, if I didn’t state it well, was whether or not CCleaner could identify prereleases when it goes out to check current software versions and not use those.

Often a software update will be released but it takes a while before a ‘Check for Updates’ in the app itself will offer it to you.

It isn’t a pre-release or beta test, it a full update that is just being throttled (distributed out slowly) to users so as not to overload the software company’s servers.

If you know about the update (as the Software Updater in CCleaner often does) then you can get it yourself rather than waiting for the software to offer it to you.
Or you can wait until the software does offer it to you, it’s your choice.

However I will agree that if CCleaners Software Updater was offering a per-release/beta then it shouldn’t have been.

24.8.4 is the current LibreOffice released version, although cautious users may prefer to stay one version back on 24.2.7.

What version were you being offered?
24.8.5 and 25.2.0 are the currently available pre-releases.

It was 25.2.0, which is listed as a prerelease.

Sounds loke someone at the updater service getting a bit too keen then.

We have asked for ‘Skip this version’ and ‘Ignore updates’ buttons to be added, similar to the ones already in the Driver Updater.

If/when added that will give more control over what does and doesn’t get updated.

TBH I’ll still be checking everything it offers and making my own mind up, I just use it as a notification that there may be an update that I want.
