I had asked Softpedia to review CCleaner just for the heck of it, and they did. The last time they reviewed it was when it was in BETA stage of v1!
The Good
You can choose the portable version in order to skip the installation process. The interface is straightforward and easy to use.
It is flexible when it comes to cleaning junk files as it offers the possibility to define which files should be included in the process and which should be skipped.
Advanced secure file wipe algorithms are included, such as NSA standard or Peter Gutmann which features 35 passes.
The Bad
Registry cleaning needed at least a second pass to clean the items it detected at the first analysis. The uninstaller brings no special features to the table. The system restore manager only lets you view some details about each entry and remove it.
The Truth
CCleaner is a handy tool that can help a lot with upping system performance. It moves fast and is safe to use. Secure deletion features ensure that no data it wipes can be retrieved.
Despite its downside, CCleaner remains a reliable instrument when it comes to getting your system back in shape.
