Six Months Later — Is “Auto Clean After Browser Close” Still Real or Just Marketing Copy?

It has now been about six months since users began reporting that the advertised “automatic cleaning after browser close” functionality no longer actually works as it historically did.

During these six months:

  • Multiple forum threads have raised the issue
  • Users have repeatedly asked for clarification
  • Several CCleaner updates have been released

Yet the situation remains unchanged.

The Pro version is still being advertised with this feature, while in practice users cannot use it in the way the marketing suggests.

At this point the situation becomes difficult to understand.

If the feature was removed — then why is it still being advertised?

If the feature still exists — then why has it remained non-functional for months without explanation?

And if the company is aware of the issue — why has there been no clear communication to paying customers?

Right now the optics are not great. From the outside it looks like:

  • A feature disappears
  • Users report it
  • Months pass
  • The feature remains on the sales page

That sequence naturally raises uncomfortable questions.

Most users are not asking for miracles — just basic transparency. A simple statement from CCleaner staff explaining whether the feature is coming back, permanently removed, or being redesigned would prevent a lot of frustration.

Until then, it is hard to avoid the impression that the marketing page and the actual product are no longer describing the same thing.

That is not a great look for software that people are still being asked to pay for.

Hi @marvel5y53m,
Automatic cleaning after browser close hasn’t been permanently removed. We’re reworking and improving it to provide more functionality, and we plan to bring it back in an upcoming update.
It’s taken longer than expected, and we know the lack of communication hasn’t helped, especially with the feature still listed under Pro. That’s fair feedback and it’s on us.
We’ve already started restoring automation features: Scheduled Cleaning came back in version 7.2 in December, and Smart Cleaning is coming soon. We can’t share exact dates yet, but the team is actively on this. It’s coming back, not quietly going away.
We’ll be clearer going forward when changes affect features you rely on day to day. Thank you for continuing to raise this.

Good to see a reply, but this still misses the core issue.

I paid for Pro based on features that were marketed and working at the time. When those disappear for months while still being advertised, the product people paid for is no longer the same.

Telling users to downgrade to v6 is also not a real solution. That means running older software and potentially missing security and bug-fix updates, which is not a paid-user experience.

So the real question is: why should paying users have to choose between staying updated and having the features they paid for?

And if features that were marketed are unavailable for months, would CCleaner be willing to offer partial refunds for that missing functionality?

If the redesign takes time, the least that should happen is restoring the last working version immediately and improving it later.

Hi @marvel5y53m,
With regards to CCleaner 6, we never recommend downgrading to CCleaner v6 for the reasons you have listed, and always advise users to be on the latest version of CCleaner.
With regards to a partial refund or compensation for the loss of this feature, I have sent you a DM about this.
