I ran secure erase the other day(7 passes) and noticed that when I did norton picked up on multiple unknown EXE files that were downloaded, one file claims to be from Piriform, while the other didn't have an address. here's a few examples of the files.
$RZZ7VE5/exe
$RXH4HUK/exe
$RWWR6IC/exe
$RE54FY5/exe
all had a file path of c:\Recycle.Bin\
I've ran it in the past and never noticed this type of behavior, Just want to make sure my computer isn't at risk, any insight is greatly appreciated!
Windows renames files sent to the recycler, to $Rnnnnnn followed by the extension type, so these are deleted exe files. I guess they are still in the recycler? You don't have to worry about them, they are quite normal. There should be a corresponding $Innnnnn file for each $R file as well.
interesting, so it's normal for secure erase to download files in orders to dispose of them? I ran it a second time and even did the 32 out of curiosity & it didn't reoccur. Anyways, the files no longer exist & and didnt see any corresponding N files, I was unable to find the files on the designated file path/name.
