SD card recovery - Win XP verses Win 7

Short story.

Had a corrupted SD card that I had to recover files from. Recuva was recommended so I gave it a go.

Firstly I had it running on a Win 7 Laptop with built in card reader. Recuva would recognize the SD card and begin the deep scan and would even tell me that my files were there. But when going to recover it would fail and tell me that the source has been changed.

Not sure why, but the SD card would unmount itself at the end of the scan and then windows would auto remount it. So obviously the recovery bit failed.

I also had a XP machine with built in card reader so I thought i'd give that a go, it cant do any harm. Again process went as planned but this time right at the end of the recovery it finished and said it couldn't recover files because there was an IO error. Not sure why as this time the SD card seemed to remain mounted and available throughout.

But the good thing is when I checked the location where I told it to recover my file to, the file was sitting there despite the error message. And after careful checking I can say the file is fine and complete.

Recuva did the job it said it could do even while telling me it cant. And the best OS for the job seems to be the older one. Got less complications I guess?

Anyway just thought id let people know I had far more luck with XP than 7 if anyone else is having similar trouble.
