Maybe a feature that scans for file extensions such as *.tmp, *.chk, and ~*.* to find more temp files?
After running CCleaner, I still found files with those extensions using Search.
Often these files come back as needed, this may be why you found them after running CCleaner. Also, CCleaner may not be set to clean some folders where there were found.
Also, some files are only *flagged* for deletion as they may be in use; restart to have them deleted. Of course many will come back as needed.

I believe my firewall makes a temp file and actively uses it for logging activity.
