I just purchased Recuva Pro and D/L to a USB stick as I was afraid to write to my hard disk because I might overwrite the file I need to recover.
Can I run the exe from my USB drive to recover files on C:? If I run the exe will it try to install on my hard drive?
Hi dasadler.
If you've downloaded the Recuva "Installer" and run it, it will install the program to it's default location (C:\Program Files) no matter where you run it from.
What you need is the Recuva "Portable" version available to download here ...
http://www.piriform.com/recuva/builds
This isn't a Pro version but there isn't any difference in the scanning abilities of Pro or Free versions. The difference is in the direct priority support and some features.
However, because you have purchased a Pro licence you will still be able to contact Piriform Support direct to answer any problems you may encounter using the portable version. Or to request advice.
You can find them here ...

Hope that helps. ![:)]()
Hi, When I go to the link you give in your answer, I don’t see Recuva Portable.
It says Recuva - Installer Standard installer-Download
You’re replying to a ten-year-old thread. and yes for some stupid reason(1) they removed it, when it’s their one product that should always be portable.
Two ways to get the (IMHO far superior) program as portable you can either get the version (it’s still Recuva) from Portable Apps or (preferably on another pc or at least drive) install Recuva and copy both exe’s to your portable drive and make a blank notepad (name it portable.dat, making sure that you can see extensions for known file types in Windows Explorer properties, else it becomes portable.dat.txt and we don’t want that)
(1) @Laurence_CCleaner can you get me an answer as to why this crucial as portable has been removed?
@Nergal, checking the Download Recuva builds page, the portable build was removed around Sept 2019.
I will speak with the product team to see if there was a reason for this?
