I've recently installed the new version of CCleaner and instantly ran it. It deleted my favourites list from internet explorer and i need to get the list back. Also note that CCleaner has deleted files from my Recycle bin.
Emptying the Recycle Bin is normal. By default, Cleaner > System > Empty Recycle Bin is enabled.
Deleting IE Favorites is not normal. Which OS? Which version of IE?
EDIT: Prompt use of Recuva may be your best option. In the meantime, use the computer as little as possible to reduce the chance of overwriting the files.
Thanks for the quick reply. Im using windows vista and internet explorer 7. Is Recuva safe to download and use? ive got a new computer and dont want to mess it up.

NEVER EVER download any Recovery utility to a drive partition which has lost files.
What you want to recover can be over-written and totally destroyed by what you thought would rescue them.
You must anticipate your need before downloading / installing.
Otherwise, in you case, download to a different partition.
If you have no other partition - get a flash drive.
Also ensure that what you retrieve is NOT saved on the partition you are rescuing from.
Observe the above and Recuva is safe.

Yes, Recuva is safe to use, but I've been trying to think if there could be some other solution for you.
Do you use any other browsers besides IE7 which may also contain bookmarks which could be imported? Or an old/previous computer?
I was also looking at some old posts from various sources on the web, and I came across one mentioning a folder in Vista called "Windows.old". The original poster had lost all his IE7 bookmarks in Vista.

I don't have Vista, but maybe one of the other members who use Vista could let us know if this folder is still used in Vista, and could it contain bookmarks as suggested in that old discussion I linked to.
thank you very much Glenn, Alan _B and Dennis_D! I feel a little foolish now...somehow, either the ccleaner or vista or some other unknown force has moved my favorites list from one place to another! all is right with the world again!
Anyways thanks for taking the time to respond...It's really appreciated.
I love happy endings.
I have just had the same experience - Favorites folder is empty following use of CCleaner - but a search did not turn up any folder called Windows.old on my computer (Vista Business OS). Are there any other fixes to restore deleted bookmarks? Thanks.
