Restore points vanished

As of 6:00pm on 9/4 , CCleaner showed all restore points set by the system (Windows 11). Just noted at 3:00am on 9/5 that all had vanished. Any clue what happened?

I created a new one at that point which still shows.

I suspect that Windows itself has removed them, see below.

Are you using CCleaner v6.39, or are you using the V7 Beta version?

CCleaner v6.## will only remove restore points if you explicitly tell it to using the tool, for safety that tool will not let you remove the latest one:
(I’m not sure if that tool is included in the V7 Beta).

As I say I suspect that what has happened is the Windows itself has removed your old restore points.
Windows does remove it own restore points from time to time. Windows 11 seems to do it more often than Windows 10.
Windows will also remove RPs that you have created manually if/when you are running low on storage space for them.

Windows 10 and 11 will also often remove restore points during Windows Updates, because they may not be compatible with the updated version.

In addition a new policy in Windows 11 24H2, effective from the June 2025 security update, sets a 60-day expiration for restore points before they are automatically deleted.

PS. You may want to consider that techie computer users no longer considered Restore Points to be the ‘system backup’ solution that they once were.
Instead they make regular full system images of their computer using an imaging backup tool such as Macrium Reflect, Easus Todo, Acronis True image, Aomei Backerupper, etc. etc.

For instance; say if your hard drive completely crashes, or just stops working, then any restore points will be lost along with Windows itself, and all you can do is a fresh install of Windows from scratch.
However with a full system image saved on an external drive you can rapidly get your computer back exactly as it was even if you have to replace the crashed drive with a new one.

Suspected the same - that Windows 11 did the deed. I have CCleaner v6.39. What I found odd was that Windows itself created the restore points just 2 days prior. They should last longer than that.
