Removing Tracking Cookies?

CCleaner claims to remove all cookies that are not saved. Yet SuperAntiSpyware asks me to reboot because it cannot remove tracking cookies which are in use. I'm confused. Do I need to reboot to remove these cookies or not? Thanks.

Do you have your browser open while running Super Anti Spyware?

Probably, but then I have it open when I run CCleaner also...

I know CCleaner can remove ones while IE is open but not while FireFox is open.

Why don't you find the tracking cookies in SAS, which say you need to reboot, but dont reboot then run CCleaner, and then run SAS again to see if they have dissapeared. Then you know CCleaner is doing it's job without a reboot.

Just an idea.

But AFAIK CCleaner does remove all tracking cookies, without a reboot.

the C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Cookies\index.dat file (path is for XP, may differ in Vista) is not deleted immediately after running CCleaner but rather is deleted after a reboot. Perhaps it is this file that SAS advises that a reboot is required to delete?

I'll do a weeks worth of browsing to collect some cookies, then run SAS, record the paths, then run CCleaner. I'll keep you posted.
