Registry

When I clean my registry I keep getting the same items showing up. How do I permenatly delete them?

Hi Going Goofy, and welcome to Piriform.

You'll have to be more specific than that. Can you tell us which registry entries you're referring to?

Also which Operating System and which browser (with version number) are you using?

I use Vista Home preimum & IE8.

I have v2.24.1010

I am refering to Registy Integrity.

When I scan for issues I keep getting the same items.

Problem, Unused file Extension 12 of these, Invalid Default Icon 2 of those, Open with Application Issue 1 and the last one Invalid or empty file class.

I would like to know how to delete them so they do not keep repeating.

Microsoft runs a free online scanner that will clean crab files out. It also defrags, cleans the registry and removes malware. Give it a spin and see what it can do. Full scan: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

This is dangerous stuff !!!!! here is a link for Microsoft knowledge web site.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library...454(WS.10).aspx

some topics to look at are Grant full control of a registry key , Take ownership of a registry key , Assign permissions to a registry key , Add users or groups to the Permissions list , Audit activity on a registry key , Add users or groups to the Audit list

YOU CAN MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER if the line you want to remove is needed.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST DO NOT REMOVE the line unless you are 100 percent sure you can with out problems. Even if a cleaner suggest that the line SHOULD be removed. You have to KNOW what the line is for, and what it controls BEFORE you remove it

Ps see my POST I have the same problem !! But I know what my lines are for and what they control.

Let's not panic here. You can backup the registry with CCleaner. You can backup the registry with Erunt. You can use System Restore. You can use Last Known Good Configuration. You can do a repair install. You can run check disk. You can run scannow. And more.

We're not exactly short of options here.

Besides: CCleaner is perfectly safe. Nothing bad ever happens.

Thank you and all the others for responding.

This is exactly what it showes when I clean the Registry:

Will it do any harm to select Fix Issues?

Or is there a way to delete them to space?

No, I don't think so. But then: I always delete all of them. Have done so for years. Nothing ever happens. If you're unsure you can let Microsoft delete them. The free scanner in my signature will take care of them. Microsoft cleaning Microsoft. Just as safely as CCleaner would have done it...
