Registry startup modify not save

I tried to disable some of the startup programs via CCleaner but when I switch to other tab like Uninstall and back to Startup, all the disabled entries will revert back enabled. I tried to disabled the entries again and then close the program. Reopen it and find the entries again revert back to original state.

I tried running the program in admin mode but still having the same issue. I even tried to temperary stop my anti virus incase it is preventing any registry modification being done but it doesn't help...

I am using CCleaner Portable latest version and Win 7 64 Bits. How do I fix this?

Sometimes you have to restart the computer before registry changes take effect.

I do not make the rules.

I bend the rules when I can, but some fights are not worth the aggravation.

Hi Alan,

I did restart my PC after changing the Startup the entries but it revert back to before I change it after my PC restarted...

Can you give us some examples of what some of the entries were that you were tring to disable at startup?

Do you have UAC turned off or on?

I know this is one you can't do anything about if you have NVIDIA drivers installed, it will just create itself again:

RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

Confirmed here

Perhaps your registry permissions have been modified. Certain programs/actions on the PC will cause a reg key to lose write access & block changes.

lets not get a head of ourselves lets find what entries there are first

I am trying to temperory disable some of the seldom used process from starting up like the ielowutil.exe and iTuneHelper.exe (I never use IE browser and I only use iTune when I want to backup my iPhone) but the modified entries never save when I quite CCleaner... Nto sure why :|

Feeds and webslices updating can happen even if you don't use IE (ielowutil.exe)

In your control panel open internet options and select the content tab.

Feed and web slices should be at the bottom, select settings and make sure 'automatically check for updates' is not ticked.

As regards iTunes helper if you stop it from starting via msconfig does it still start?

Itunes "gave" me the bonjour service which automatically restarted itself and other Apple rubbish I never wanted to have running.

It was a pig getting that to stop.

I view iTunes etc as deliberate sabotage by Aplple of Microsoft systems

All updates to apple products will create a new entry, for the startup and services for those products and do not respect the turn off. I'm not sure that's the issue here though as I doubt you are updating apple's software as frequently as you are rebooting your PC (though maybe)
