Registry restoration

Hey

I run the newest CCleaner with the cleaner and issues. I have a few questions.

How do I restore registry settings ( I backed them up and they are in winrar archive format)?

Could I use the import function in regedit?

Also I did the same thing with my other computer but also ran startup with issues and cleaner. Now my computer won't boot past the xp screen. Some sort of error pops up.

I figured I could just try to go into safe mode and try to restore registry settings from there, but I don't now how with winrar files. :(

In the faq section it just says this

How do I restore registry backups?

Right-click on the .REG file created and select 'Merge'.

By default these files will be saved into your 'My Documents' folder.

I'll get back and type the error

Thanks for any help

edit: 1st computer is running xp home sp2

second is running xp pro sp2

The second computer is the one not booting, this error pops up

Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load

Contact admin or something

Then the bottom of the window says restart.

Oh and I already tried to boot into safe mode and to boot windows with the last known good configuration. Safe mode

restarts the computer every time and last known good config says the same error as before

I recently had a WinXP failure to load past the Windows logo myself, ended just formatting to fix it.

You can run WinRAR in safe mode, it will work the same but a little slower. All you have to do is extract the .reg file someplace such as the desktop, then double click it to import the registry data. However you may be better of just running System Restore and going back a day (or further back) when you know your computer operated without problems.
