whats a good registry repair/cleaner i tried regcure but didn't like it since you had to pay
ccleaner is a good registry cleaner and it's free
yea i have it but I'm also interested in 1 that repairs too
What do you think CCleaner does?
i never knew it repairs if thats what it does also. So how does it work I go to the registry section and click run and then whatever it finds it either deletes or repairs?
Please, use the the Registry Cleaner with CAUTION.
If you have no idea, about what you are cleaning, do not mess around with it.
Always take a back up with the app call ERUNT.
Yes, that is what CCleaner does. But the best software all us can have is common sense
I'm not sure about repairs, but I use a multitude of apps to keep mine clean. But you have to make sure you watch what you're cleaning because not all of them are safe like CCleaner and will remove important things (one broke sound card drivers on another one of my computers)
So unless you want to trawl though many an entry making sure you dont need any, stick with CCleaners.
I think you can usually take the terms "repair" or "fix" to mean delete. I don't know of any registry cleaner that actually repairs registry entries in the true sense of the word.
I suppose deleting all the broken and "go nowhere" links is repairing things in a way, but it is a wee bit confusing, and it confused me when I first came across reg cleaners, but don't tell anybody that.
I was going through CCleaners list of "Issues", and waiting for something to appear in the "Solution" box that said something different to "Delete The Entry", but it never happened, so don't hold your breath waiting for a different solution to appear.
EDIT: Don't forget the "BACKUP always" advice given above, and isn't Regcure a rogue program, allegedly, or has it cleaned up it's act?

Editing the registry: "Be afraid...be very afraid".
ERUNT will make backups. LINK
Ccleaner will make a back up before it changes anything, also.
ok kind of a novice question but if i made copies before deleting would i have to delete the copies after if the deleting was all fine or would the copies automatically delete themselves if the deleting went fine of the originals

Hello hello2007
CCleaner and other registry cleaner products always give you the option to backup your registry before you clean it. Always click "yes" - it's always best to be on the safe side. Do not worry about deleting backups, they do no harm.
Also, I have configured ERUNT to backup my registry on every startup. I feel this is a very good idea.

How Ccleaner works to "edit" the registry: It identifies a registry entry as an "Issue" or a "Problem" then if you tell it to it deletes it from the registry. Before it deletes it it will ask if you want to back up the registry. That really means just the part you are about to delete. Do make the back up.
If you make a registry backup using ccleaner, it will have the file extension .reg. You just double click it and it will put itself back into the registry. The original backup file, with the .reg extension, will remain wherever it was when you clicked it, even after it is merged into the registry.
There are pretty good instructions for ERUNT at the link.
Editing the registry doesn't usually make the computer faster. Maybe a little. I have done it several different ways, and cannot tell much difference.
edit: Well, razz beat me to it.
I won't ever touch my registry since I had bad experiences about that, even with Reg Mechanic / RegCure at all.
Below, I gave the link (old article but still relevant) so maybe open our mind about reg cleaner
