Recuva won't open

Hey! I'm on an HP Pavilion DV6 laptop running Windows 7 on one partition and Windows 10 on another. I'm trying to recover files from a hard drive that got a bit scrambled, but Recuva doesn't come up when I click on it to run it in Windows 10 and comes up only once in Windows 7, but lags then needs to be restarted. What gives? Why won't Recuva just open like every other program I use with no problem?

Hi lunaquesa, and welcome to the forum.

I don't have a definitive answer for you but as you haven't had any others I'll have a try.

I'm wondering if there can be a conflict between the two separate installations of Recuva on the same drive, albeit on different partitions.

Have you tried running Recuva with it installed on only one of your two operating systems?

or

Remove both installs of Recuva and have a try with a portable version from one of your installed operating systems.

Just extract Recuva to any folder and run it.

As I say, I'm not sure what's going on but have a try with the suggestions, and let us know if either makes a difference. If nothing else, I've bumped your topic.

It doesn't work with either the suggestions you outlined. It only works once, once I restart the computer and before I hook up the other hard drive through USB. It used to at least come up and make a valiant attempt at recovering the contents of the drive, now it won't even read it.

I'm running Recuva portable and it used to take years to open. I excluded Recuva and CC from my a/v checking and both open very quickly now.
