Recuva scan stage 1

im on stage 1 of 3 scan of 5 tb hdd and got to 12%. It has been on 12% for about 2 days and time remaining is at 16 days and climbing. % doesn’t change only time remaining does by increasing length to completion. is this normal?

Scanning 5 Tereabytes is going to take a long time.

Especially if the drive is connected to a USB port.

Estimates of time remaing are basically just guesses. but for a 5G drive on a USB2 connection it’s going to be high.

Would you like to tell us just what has happened to make you try a drive recovery?

If we know why then we may be able to give better advice.

power surge rendered drive RAW, did quick format and now trying to recover.

my question is, is staying at 12% for 3+ days normal? after advancing to 12% in 6 hours. understand long process, but seems odd to stall at 12% this long.

Thanks,

There is a particular way that you need to use Recuva to recover the files that were on a drive that has become RAW.
If you have not used that special way then your scan is looking for every file that might ever have been deleted from the drive.

How long a scan will take depends on a few things, but mainly the speed of the connection (USB3 is faster than USB2, SATA is much faster than USB) and the capacity of the drive.
It’s just a consequence of todays much larger capacity drives, there is much more memory to be scanned on a 5TB drive than a 500GB one. (10x more so it will take around 10x longer to scan)

See this for how you should recover the non-deleted files from a drive that has crashed/become Raw:
