The subject line pretty much says what I have to say. Using Win 7 x64, Office 2010 x64. Tried to recover 9 Word files. Ran Recuva deep scan, found all the files, said they are all in excellent condition, no overwritten clusters detected. I did a recover, got the files, but all except one had a file name beginning withy "~". And these are the files Word will not open, or recover.
Suggestions welcome! If it would help, I can provide a file or two.
The tidle character (~) is created by Office when the product you are in (in your case Word), does not close normally (like PC loses power, Word hangs).
These files are used by Auto Recover when the product starts next and allows you to Save As.
As far as I know, they cannot be used to simply open with Word and be able to get to your data.
So either Recuva has physically recovered them but they are sadly corrupted or Word cannot open a ~ file.
