Recuva not retrieving files

Hi all,

I'm using the paid pro version of Recuva and its only retrieving a tiny percentage of files of my "quick formated" harddrive.

The harddrive was windows 8, I'm using a windows 7 laptop with recuva installed.

There is 932 GB of data on there, and the files are all shown to be in "excellent" condition, but when I try to recover, the message window says "Device not ready", 0 files recovered (for most of them).

The hardrive doesn't appear to be sleeping, I can hear the hard drive spinning, and it works for some other files. I've tried changing usb ports on my pc, I've also saved a folder with a picture file which I've opened on my harddrive (since I read someone say that might help to keep the drive active). All to no avail.

I've even tried scanning/recovering in safe mode, still the same problem.

It takes a few hours do do the deep scan, all the data shows as being in excellent condition, but I can't access most of it.

The stuff I can access is just garbage, internet cookie files, etc. None of the pictures, movies, program files are being recovered.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated !

Also, after a scan - is it possible to save the scan results so I don't have to keep rescanning if the software is shut down? Can't seem to find a save function.

provide as much info as possible, for example, how was the data lost, hard drive type, format method and anything else that will help them help you.

Thanks for your reply mta. I have now just logged into their support site and have posted the info.

I have noticed one other thing that may suggest where the problem lies. If I stop the deep scan after a minute or so, all the files which then show are recoverable.

There is header info, and preview of images is available.

However, after the complete scan (few hours or so), all the header info is just zeros, no preview available and none of the images are recoverable. There must be a clue in there somewhere.
