Recuva not recognizing Sandisk Sansa Express

I have a Sandisk Sansa Express device. It is essentially a 1 gig USB disk that doubles as an MP3 player. I need Recuva to recover a file on it, but Recuva doesn't even recognize the drive. Any suggestions? The drive clearly shows as a drive in Windows.

does windows mount it as a drive or a portable device (MTP). Recuva only recognizes devices that mount as drive letter drives

Unfortunately, it shows as a portable device. Do you know any programs that will recognize a portable device?

There probably will be some paid programs around.

There are also various workaround to this issue posted around the internet (try at your own risk of course!)
