Recuva Deep Scan taking far longer than normal

I have been using Recuva for some time now with no problems. Lately (past month) when I try to run a deep scan the estimated time to completion just gets longer and longer. eg. after 1% is reached, it says 3 hours, 2% 10 hours; and so on until the estimated time is days eg. 12 days etc. Obviously at this point I cancel the scan because there is clearly some problem. Not sure if the problem is with the latest version of Recuva, or if my hard drive has some kind of problem.

I have seen other users postings about the same thing; so I'm not sure if I should have just added this to an existing thread, or started a new one, but the previous threads never really answered the question in a way that could help me. Anyone else having this problem?

Some things that would help when posting, are:

- Windows version & SP #

- Recuva Version + the Recuva settings you have ticked

- Amount of RAM + amount free RAM

- Size of drive & amount free space on the drive

While this may or may not lead them to a fix, it helps to know little details like this to get an idea of what could potentially be the cause here.

Thanks - here is the info:

Windows XP SP3

Recuva version v1.42.544

Have ticked: show files found in hidden system directories, show zero byte files, show securely overwritten files, scan for nondeleted files

1GB RAM, free RAM = 460 MB

HD = 139 GB, 125GB free (it's a netbook)

Any thoughts?
